Children’s birthday parties are one of our favorite things to photograph for two reasons:
- Parents get a chance to unwind with the kids playing and being entertained
- The children couldn’t care less about the camera – they pull faces and have as much fun as they can without feeling shy
Both of these things make for excellent photos, and we always walk away from a first birthday party with something to add to our portfolio – and this party was no different.
For Jacob’s first birthday we made the short trip to the Marriott Bexleyheath. When we arrived we were amazed by the effort put in to decorating the venue, all in a Peter Rabbit theme (one of my favorite stories as a child too!), from the small details such as table names to the big scenery for the entertainment area. The big hit with the guests was the charming pik’n’mix cart from Soiree Events, and we loved the sheer size of the balloon chain crafted by Ne Riba.
In between power naps, Jacob’s eyes lit up from being the center of attention, with so many friends and family spending time with him on his special day. Jacob was particularly drawn to the 7ft Peter Rabbit mascot, whilst the older children clambered over each other in the bouncy castle and ball pit.
After getting faces painted, the afternoon was nicely topped off with cutting the cake and sharing some good bags to tuck in to at home.
